DRUG TRAFFICKING
A Shreveport man’s plans to sell methamphetamine have landed him a 20-year prison sentence. Dondell Pea, 30, was sentenced to 240 months in prison for possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote handed down the sentence, which also includes 10 years of supervised release. According to the October 24, 2016 guilty plea, Pea was arrested on May 26, 2016 after returning home.
Agents found him with 266.3 grams of methamphetamine in his vehicle and a .40 caliber handgun in his home. Pea had made arrangements to sell methamphetamine with a buyer, but his plans were foiled when he was arrested.
The DEA and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tennille M. Gilreath and Allison D. Bushnell prosecuted the case.
The investigation and subsequent conviction are a reminder of the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in Louisiana. As law enforcement continues to crackdown on dealers, the community is left to wonder what led to Pea’s downfall.
Pea’s case highlights the severity of the consequences for those involved in methamphetamine trafficking. The sentence he received is a testament to the seriousness with which the law views this type of crime.
As the community moves forward, it’s clear that the fight against methamphetamine trafficking is far from over. With continued efforts from law enforcement and the community, perhaps one day Shreveport will be free from the grip of this deadly drug.
