Esequiel Gomez, Meth and Firearms Possession, Iowa 2024
A Denver, Colorado man is facing a lengthy prison sentence after being caught with a large stash of methamphetamine and multiple firearms, according to authorities. Esequiel Gomez, 35, is set to spend 19 years behind bars after being convicted of possessing the illicit substances with the intent to distribute them.
The crime came to light on April 27, 2022, when law enforcement responded to an alarm at the Sioux City Ford Lincoln car dealership. Gomez had broken into the dealership and stolen an F-350 pickup truck while a codefendant waited in a U-Haul van. The pair were ultimately apprehended after a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
During the chase, Gomez and his accomplice discarded several items, including a substantial amount of stolen goods. When the pair was finally stopped, authorities discovered over 150 pounds of stolen marijuana, approximately one pound of methamphetamine, three firearms, and a host of other stolen items.
Gomez’s troubles don’t stop there. He has a laundry list of pending charges in Colorado, including auto thefts. The investigation into Gomez’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Tri-State Drug Task Force and other local law enforcement agencies.
At his sentencing hearing, Gomez was given 19 years in prison and five years of supervised release. He is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison. With no parole available in the federal system, Gomez will have to serve every last day of his sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood, who praised the efforts of the Tri-State Drug Task Force for their role in bringing Gomez to justice. The case number is 22-4045. For more information, visit https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl. Follow us on Twitter @USAO_NDIA.
