A Guatemalan national has been brought to justice for violating U.S. immigration laws.
Eswin Estuardo Martinez-Reyes, 42, a citizen of Guatemala, pled guilty yesterday to a one-count indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien.
According to the indictment, Martinez-Reyes was found in the United States on December 2, 2014, after having been officially deported and removed on June 7, 2013.
Martinez-Reyes faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a fine of $250,000, one year supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment.
U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance set sentencing for March 18, 2015.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Border Patrol in investigating this matter.
Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is in charge of the prosecution.
The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws.
