EVANSVILLE, IN – In a stunning blow to the region’s drug trade, 44-year-old Evansville resident Troy Ogburn has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role as a major player in the distribution of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. The harsh sentence comes after a coordinated investigation by the DEA and local law enforcement led to the recovery of over a kilogram of drugs and several firearms.
According to court documents, Ogburn’s drug trafficking operation was uncovered following a series of searches that began in October 2024. During these operations, agents recovered 1,470 grams of methamphetamine, 143 grams of fentanyl, and 25 grams of cocaine from his apartment. A further 109.8 grams of fentanyl in pills were also found, along with multiple firearms and thousands of dollars in cash.
At the time of his arrest, Ogburn was driving a vehicle containing another ledger of drug transactions and $4,572.00 in cash. His criminal history includes previous convictions for drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession, which barred him from legally owning a firearm.
“Trafficking deadly amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl fuels addiction, overdoses, and violence in our communities,” said Tom Wheeler, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “This sentence ensures that a dangerous offender is removed from our streets and sends a clear message: those who deal in these poisons while armed with illegal firearms will face serious federal prison time.”
The DEA and Evansville Police Department were instrumental in this investigation, with valuable assistance from the Evansville Vanderburg County Drug Task Force. U.S. District Judge Matthew P. Brookaman imposed the sentence, which also includes five years of supervised release.
