Evansville Man Sentenced for Child Pornography

Evansville, IN – An Evansville man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.

Christopher N. Gill, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted to downloading multiple images depicting minors under the age of 12 engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The images were obtained using his cellular telephone and uploaded to a Google internet-based data storage account.

Gill’s sentence was mandatory due to a prior conviction for possession of child pornography in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, in 2010. He was also required to register as a sex offender due to this conviction.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, who prosecuted the case for the government, Judge Richard L. Young imposed a lifetime term of supervised release following Gill’s release from prison. Gill must register as a sex offender, may not have unsupervised contact with minors and must participate in a sex offender treatment program while on supervision.

The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crimes Task Force, the Evansville Police Department, and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department.

Gill’s conviction and sentence serve as a reminder of the serious consequences of possessing and distributing child pornography. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

The government will continue to aggressively pursue those who engage in this heinous crime and bring them to justice.
