EVANSVILLE – A dark chapter in the life of Joshua J. Walker, 28, from Evansville, Indiana, was sealed today as he was handed a 120-month sentence for possession and distribution of child pornography. The verdict came after Walker’s guilty plea to the charges, which were uncovered during an intensive investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Violent Crimes Task Force and the Evansville Police Department.
On October 19, 2016, Walker confessed in court that he had exploited file sharing software to search for and download images of underage girls. The defendant’s own words painted a chilling picture, as he revealed his creation of an internet blog where depictions of minors engaging in sex acts were shared with other members.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd S. Shellenbarger, who led the prosecution for the government, detailed that following his release from prison, Walker will be under 5 years of supervised release. The sentence also mandates registration as a sex offender, prohibits unsupervised contact with minors, and requires participation in a sex offender treatment program.
Walker’s devices used in the offense were seized by the government as part of the sentencing process. This case is another victory for Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s initiative launched to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The nationwide effort coordinates federal, state, and local resources to apprehend predators and rescue victims.
