A former Marine from Jacksonville, Florida, William L. Upham, 35, has been arrested for threatening to kill the President of the United States. Upham, who is also a former state prosecutor, made the threats in two videos posted on his social media accounts, where he called for the overthrow of the Trump administration and provided instructions on how to carry out the attack. The United States Secret Service (USSS) received reports of the threats and observed the videos, which led to Upham’s arrest.
In the videos, Upham wore his military uniform and stated that President Trump is the enemy and must be killed. He also provided detailed instructions on how to carry out the attack, including the use of a semi-automatic rifle and the aim for a fatal shot. The USSS also became aware that Upham had access to firearms and had made concerning statements to law enforcement as recently as July 2026.
Upham appeared in federal court in Jacksonville and has been ordered detained. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. The case was investigated by the USSS, and the arrest was announced by United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
