Fake Passport Foiled at Dulles Airport

A shocking case of identity theft has been foiled at Dulles International Airport, where 44-year-old Kofi Kyei Asare Takyi of Ghana was arrested for presenting a false passport to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.

Takyi, who was attempting to enter the United States on a flight from Brussels, Belgium, presented a false passport in the name of Michael Christopher Wilson. After questioning and a search of Takyi’s baggage, CBP agents found several identifying documents, including a Georgia driver’s license, a Maryland driver’s license, a social security card, all in the name of Michael Christopher Wilson.

Also found were a Ghanaian passport, a Maryland driver’s license, and several credit cards in the name of Michael Christopher Wilson and Kofi Kyei Asare. A fingerprint identification examination returned positive results, including an FBI number with multiple arrests and at least three identities.

According to Customs and Border Protection officials, violating U.S. immigration law is a very serious offense that can threaten the nation’s security.

“We hope that this criminal prosecution deters would-be impostors and reminds them that Customs and Border Protection officers are skilled at detecting fraudsters,” said Wayne Biondi, Customs and Border Protection Port Director of the Area Port of Washington Dulles.

Takyi was charged with false statements in application and use of a passport and faces a serious punishment if convicted. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marina C. Fernandez.
