On March 11, 2024, at around 7:25 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers on patrol in the 1500 block of S Street SE in Washington DC approached a suspicious vehicle with heavily tinted windows. The driver, 47-year-old Robert Geiger, a previously convicted felon, was found to be hiding a loaded 9mm Glock 19 with an extended magazine in his waistband. The gun had been reported stolen by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina.
Geiger’s attempt to conceal the firearm was foiled when officers conducted a protective pat-down after asking him to exit the vehicle. The discovery of the stolen handgun led to Geiger’s guilty plea on October 30, 2025, to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Geiger’s sentencing took place on a recent Friday, with Judge Trevor N. McFadden ordering him to serve 33 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The case was investigated by the MPD with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rajbir Datta.
The successful prosecution of Geiger is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating gun crime in the nation’s capital. As a convicted felon, Geiger was prohibited from possessing a firearm, making his actions a serious violation of the law.
