Kelvin Luperon De Jesus, a 32-year-old Providence man, attempted to obtain a package shipped from California containing approximately one kilogram of fentanyl on October 14, 2025. The package was flagged as suspicious, and DEA agents tested the contents, leading to Luperon De Jesus’ arrest two days later. The defendant is charged with attempted possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, a crime that carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years of imprisonment. The investigation was part of an undercover operation by the DEA. Luperon De Jesus was arrested in October 2025.

The case against Luperon De Jesus is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney G. Michael Seaman. A federal grand jury in Rhode Island returned an indictment charging Luperon De Jesus with one count of attempted possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. An arraignment date in federal court on the indictment is not yet scheduled.

The DEA’s investigation into Luperon De Jesus’ activities led to the seizure of a significant amount of fentanyl, a highly addictive and potentially deadly opioid.
