David Washington, a 46-year-old Buffalo man, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for his role in a large-scale fentanyl and cocaine conspiracy. The scheme, which began in February 2019, involved Washington and others selling the deadly drugs in Buffalo, NY. Raids on Washington’s properties in February 2020 uncovered massive stashes of fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin, as well as over $1.1 million in cash.
The investigation, led by the FBI and DEA, included controlled purchases of fentanyl from Washington, who was arrested for selling the drug while on pre-trial release. Further searches of his properties on Bennett Village Terrace, Rogers Street, and Bailey Avenue turned up large quantities of narcotics, including three kilograms of fentanyl and 1,002 grams of cocaine.
Washington’s sentencing is the result of a lengthy investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Timothy C. Lynch and Evan K. Glaberson. Washington’s 21-year sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the danger posed by his actions to the Buffalo community.
The total amount of cash seized in the investigation was $1,133,505, which represents the proceeds of Washington’s drug trafficking operation. The investigation also highlighted the ongoing problem of fentanyl trafficking in the United States, which has been linked to thousands of overdose deaths in recent years.
