A major player in a New Jersey drug trafficking organization, Edgar Lopez Razo, Jr., has been sentenced to 104 months in prison for his role in distributing massive quantities of fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine. The 30-year-old dual citizen of the US and Mexico pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute the controlled substances, which were shipped to various locations throughout New Jersey and other states. The scheme involved booking short-term property rentals to receive deliveries of narcotics, continually changing the address to evade detection by law enforcement. From approximately February 2022 through March 2024, Lopez Razo and his coconspirators trafficked large quantities of controlled substances, resulting in the seizure of over 31 kilograms of cocaine, over 9 kilograms of fentanyl, and nearly 5 kilograms of heroin.
The investigation, led by special agents of the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), uncovered a sophisticated large-scale drug-trafficking conspiracy. Lopez Razo and his coconspirators booked at least 27 rental properties to receive shipments of narcotics, using the constant address changes as a technique to evade detection. The prosecution is part of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative, a whole-of-government partnership dedicated to protecting the American people.
Lopez Razo’s sentencing is a significant blow to the drug trafficking organization, and his conviction is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies working to combat the opioid epidemic.
