A Lynchburg, VA man ran a lucrative fentanyl trafficking operation from behind bars, using friends and family to distribute tens of thousands of pressed fentanyl pills in the area. Tremon Jaquil Burford, 31, was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison for leading the deadly operation.
Burford’s crew churned out massive quantities of fentanyl during his incarceration at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center from February 2023 to November 2023, according to court documents.
His operation’s success was built on a web of loyalty and deceit, as Burford used his loved ones to further his illicit business. The Lynchburg Police Department, ATF, and other law enforcement agencies worked tirelessly to dismantle the ring and bring Burford to justice.
First Assistant United States Attorney Robert N. Tracci praised the collaborative effort, saying it sent a clear message that criminal organizations targeting the community would face a coordinated response.
Fentanyl trafficking continues to wreak havoc on communities nationwide, fueling addiction and violence. The sentence serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of this deadly crime.
