Alton Man Sentenced for Meth and Firearm Offenses
In a shocking turn of events, George W. Holliday, Sr., 46, of Alton, Illinois, was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for his role in methamphetamine trafficking and firearm offenses. Holliday’s downfall began on March 23, 2015, when he was arrested and subsequently charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, and Obstruction of Justice.
According to evidence presented in court, Holliday and two other men were traveling together to sell methamphetamine to a woman in Pocahontas, Illinois, on November 22, 2014. The car Holliday was driving was stopped by Glen Carbon, Illinois police for a traffic offense, whereupon Holliday instructed his companions to hide a handgun. Police recovered a small quantity of methamphetamine from the vehicle and seized a soda bottle containing evidence of methamphetamine production.
Holliday’s co-defendant, James E. Bailey, Jr., also pleaded guilty to federal charges in 2015 and was sentenced to 15 months in prison in January 2016. The third individual involved in the incident pleaded guilty to state drug charges.
The investigation was conducted by the Glen Carbon Police Department, the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southwestern Illinois (MEGSI), and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison was assigned to the case.
George W. Holliday, Sr., will serve 72 months in federal prison for his role in methamphetamine trafficking and firearm offenses. Holliday pleaded guilty to the charges on November 5, 2015, and has been continuously confined since his arrest.
