Hartford Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Gang-Related Narcotics Trafficking

A 25-year-old Hartford man has been sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for gang-related narcotics trafficking.

KYRIN-ROBERT JACKSON, also known as “Ky,” was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Alker Meyer in New Haven. This sentence comes after a year-long joint law enforcement investigation into narcotics trafficking by members and associates of the WestHell street gang.

The investigation, led by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Violent Crimes Task Force, revealed that Jackson and others distributed crack cocaine in the Westland Street area of Hartford. Court documents and statements made in court showed that this activity was led by Melkuan Scott, also known as “Young God,” “Mel,” “Young” and “YG,” who was identified as the leader of the West Hell street gang.

Twenty-five individuals were charged as a result of the investigation, with one defendant being convicted after trial and 23 defendants pleading guilty to various offenses. One defendant was shot and killed while their case was pending, and Scott awaits sentencing after pleading guilty.

Jackson has a history of violent crime, having previously served approximately 71 months in state prison for assaulting police officers and larceny. On June 5, 2008, Hartford Police detectives attempted to stop a car involved in a robbery, but Jackson repeatedly drove the vehicle at officers at a high rate of speed, causing significant damage and injuring three detectives.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys John H. Durham and Peter S. Jongbloed, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Northern Connecticut Violent Crimes Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service and Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division.

The Hartford man’s sentencing comes as a major victory for law enforcement in their efforts to combat gang-related crime and narcotics trafficking in the city.
