Isaiah Beck, Unregistered Firearm and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, South Dakota 2022

Piercing the darkness on the Great Plains, a federal indictment has brought to light a disturbing crime in the heart of South Dakota. Isaiah Beck, a 19-year-old man from Rosebud, has been accused of possessing an unregistered firearm and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

According to the indictment, Beck was found to be in possession of a firearm with a barrel length of less than 18 inches on two separate occasions: May 9, 2021, and June 25, 2022, in Todd County. What’s more, the indictment alleges that at the time of these incidents, Beck was an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

The charge against Beck is a serious one, carrying a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in custody and/or a fine of $250,000. Additionally, Beck faces three years of supervised release and a mandatory payment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered in this case.

Beck’s case is part of the federal government’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. This collaborative effort brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The investigation into Beck’s activities was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Abby Roesler is leading the prosecution in this case.

Following the indictment, Beck was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has been set for March 28, 2023. Until then, Beck is to remain in custody, facing the possibility of a serious conviction that could have far-reaching consequences for his future.
