A local woman has been hit with a serious charge after a federal grand jury returned a one-count indictment against her.
Jacque Lee Brown, 43, of Olney, Illinois, was indicted on December 2, 2014, on a methamphetamine-related charge in a one-count Indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Benton, Illinois.
According to the indictment, Brown faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment, up to $250,000 fine, and a supervised release term of up to 3 years.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and the case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
An Indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
Richland County residents are still reeling from the news, and many are left wondering what led to the indictment.
