Jeffery Wayne Parker, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Alabama 2023

Today, the grim reaper of justice was let loose once more as a federal jury in Montgomery, Alabama, delivered its verdict. Jeffery Wayne Parker, a 52-year-old man from Troy, has been convicted for a crime that is as old as time itself: being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On October 10, 2023, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Parker’s residence. The scene quickly escalated into chaos when Parker bolted out the back door, only to be halted by law enforcement orders. A handgun on his waist was just the beginning of the arsenal they discovered.

They pried open the trunk of Parker’s vehicle, and what awaited them was a cache of 21 firearms: 14 shotguns and rifles, and seven handguns. It’s a collection that would make any gun enthusiast drool, but for Parker, it’s a collection that will now land him in federal prison.

Parker has prior felony convictions, making his possession of the firearms illegal under federal law. Today’s conviction means he faces up to 15 years behind bars—a sentence without parole.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with Assistant United States Attorneys Paul Markovits and J. Patrick Lamb bringing the charges to bear.

This is yet another victory for law enforcement in their relentless pursuit of those who flout the rules by wielding weapons they should never have access to. Parker’s sentence will be handed down at a later date, but one thing is certain: he’ll be paying for his crime for years to come.
