A Mexican national is behind bars after being sentenced to 14 months in prison for reentering the United States after having been previously deported twice.
Jesus Isas-Medina, 41, of Guadajara, Mexico, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. on one count of illegal reentry after being deported.
According to evidence presented at the July 28, 2015 guilty plea, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested the defendant on April 6, 2015. Upon further investigation, it was learned that Isas-Medina had been previously deported in April of 2001 and July of 2012.
The U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement – Immigration Enforcement and the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth D. Reeg prosecuted the case.
Isas-Medina was arrested on April 6, 2015, after being previously deported in April of 2001 and July of 2012. This is a stark reminder of the consequences of reentering the country after being deported.
The case highlights the importance of immigration enforcement and the need for individuals to comply with the law.
