LAKE CHARLES, LA – A Honduran national has been sentenced for his role in a plot to sell identification documents. Jorge Maldonado-Rios, 29, was sentenced to time served and one year of supervised release, after pleading guilty to illegal reentry of a removed alien and conspiracy to transfer identification documents.
According to court documents, Maldonado-Rios illegally reentered the United States after he was deported on August 16, 2012. The court documents also indicated that Maldonado-Rios conspired with two other individuals to sell a social security card and birth certificate to a confidential informant working with special agents of the Department of Homeland Security.
Maldonado-Rios will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings. The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, in investigating this matter.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis was in charge of the prosecution.
