ST. LOUIS – In a gritty turn of justice, northeast Missouri felon Darek A. Wilson, 40, from Kahoka, has been sentenced to 153 months in prison for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Wilson’s descent into legal purgatory began on July 29, 2024, when a U.S. Probation Officer discovered methamphetamine in Wilson’s bedroom during a home visit. The trail led deeper as the officer found a Glock handgun, 61 rounds of ammunition, and other illegal substances including fentanyl, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms.
Wilson had been on supervised release since his guilty plea on Nov. 10, 2021, for possession with intent to distribute meth. His latest arrest came after police discovered a staggering cache of 12 firearms hidden in the ceiling of his bedroom, along with a safe containing a digital scale, $4,394 in cash, and additional illegal substances.
Wilson’s residence was alarmingly close to school property; only 231 feet away. His latest transgressions capped off a disturbing pattern of lawlessness in the region, prompting swift action from local authorities.
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the U.S. Probation Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Northern Missouri Drug Taskforce, and the Kahoka Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nauman Wadalawala prosecuted the case with vigor.
Wilson’s sentence sends a stark message about the severe consequences faced by those who continue to flout the law despite prior convictions. His ability to amass such an arsenal of deadly weapons and drugs on supervised release underscores the critical role that vigilant law enforcement plays in keeping communities safe.
