Madison Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Possessing Handgun
A Madison man has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for possessing a handgun as a felon.
Kishaun Brooks, 21, Madison, Wisconsin, was sentenced on March 18, 2022 by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to four years in federal prison with three years of supervised release.
Brooks was found to have possessed a Glock semiautomatic handgun between March 18, 2022 and April 1, 2022 while he was on probation for three separate felony burglary convictions, three separate felony car theft convictions, and three separate felony convictions for vehicle flee/elude an officer in Dane County.
U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea prosecuted this case as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative.
The investigation was conducted by the Fitchburg Police Department, the Madison Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Madison, Wisconsin.
This case reflects the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to reduce violent crime and gun violence in the community.
The PSN program aims to strengthen community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place and to set focused and strategic enforcement priorities to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Kishaun Brooks was a menace to the community, but the four-year sentence will deter him from endangering the public, and with three years of federal supervision, he has an opportunity to turn his life around.
