Crimes Caught: Waubay Man Sentenced for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person
A convicted felon has been held accountable for violating federal firearms laws. Levi Ambrose Locke, a 29-year-old resident of Waubay, South Dakota, was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Locke was convicted of possessing a Sturm Ruger .22 long rifle, semi-automatic rifle, on or about October 2, 2020. A federal grand jury indicted the convicted felon on January 12, 2021, and he pleaded guilty to the charges on April 12, 2021.
The convicted felon knew that he was prohibited from owning firearms due to his previous conviction. The firearm in question had been shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case.
Locke also received three years of supervised release and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. He was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Locke’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws. The case highlights the importance of ensuring that convicted felons are held accountable for their actions.
