Elvin Licona Cerrato, Illegal Re-Entry, Louisiana 2025

New Orleans, Louisiana – Grimy Times has learned that Elvin Licona Cerrato (‘LICONA’), a 36-year-old native of Honduras, faced the music on June 26, 2025, for his illegal re-entry into the United States. The U.S. District Judge Nanette Jolivette-Brown meted out a sentence of time served and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee to LICONA.

According to court documents, LICONA was first booted out of the country on November 14, 2016. But like a pesky fly that keeps buzzing back, he was discovered lurking in the Eastern District of Louisiana on April 6, 2025, without permission from the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to return.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson had high praise for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for their diligent work on this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon Maestri led the prosecution from the General Crimes Unit.

This is no small fish in a big pond; LICONA’s case is a part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reeling in illegal immigration, stamping out cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguarding communities from violent crime. It’s a coordinated effort that leverages resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

As LICONA’s sentence comes down, it serves as a stark reminder of the federal government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws and protecting American citizens. His immediate transfer into custody by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement underscores the justice system’s swift response to violations.
