Daniel Gay, Child Pornography Possession, Vermont 2014

Local man Daniel Gay, 42, of Burlington, Vermont, has been handed an 18-month prison sentence for possessing child pornography.

Gay was sentenced in United States District Court in Burlington, Vermont, on April 28, 2014, after he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.

According to court records, law enforcement was conducting undercover operations on a file-sharing network when they discovered a computer later identified as belonging to Gay was offering to share image files depicting child pornography.

Law enforcement seized Gay’s computer and other digital media pursuant to a search warrant on June 28, 2013, and discovered thousands of images and videos depicting child pornography.

Gay’s attorney, Steven L. Barth of the Federal Public Defender’s Office, represented him in court. Assistant United States Attorney Barbara A. Masterson prosecuted the case.

United States Attorney Coffin commended the work of the Vermont Attorney General’s Office and the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The case is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.

Gay was also ordered to serve a five-year term of supervised release and to pay a $100 special assessment.
