LOUISVILLE, KY – The streets of Louisville are a little less saturated with poison today, thanks to a solid ten-year federal sentence handed down to two local men peddling death. Bruce A. Mills, 34, and Frank H. Brown, 35, both learned their fate on July 9, 2025, after being convicted of trafficking in a cocktail of deadly substances: methamphetamine, metonitazene, and fentanyl. They won’t be eligible for parole.
U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky, alongside Special Agent in Charge Rana Saoud of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Nashville, and Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Paul Humphrey, announced the sentencing. This wasn’t a small-time operation; the pair conspired between January 8, 2024, and May 9, 2024, to push a staggering 775.642 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 14.356 grams of the ultra-potent opioid metonitazene, and 34.84 grams of fentanyl onto the streets. That’s enough to kill a city.
The feds didn’t just rely on shaky informant testimony. Multiple search warrants executed by HSI and LMPD on May 9, 2024, October 21, 2024, and October 24, 2024, turned up a mountain of evidence. Beyond the drugs themselves, investigators seized six firearms, multiple vehicles, and a hefty pile of dirty money – approximately $40,000 in cash, along with assorted jewelry. These guys weren’t starving artists; they were profiting from human misery.
Both Mills and Brown will serve their ten-year prison terms followed by five years of supervised release. They were also slapped with a $3,000 fine each. While ten years isn’t a lifetime, it’s a significant chunk of it, and a message sent to anyone else thinking of turning Louisville into their personal drug distribution hub. The investigation was a joint effort between HSI and the dedicated officers of the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mac Shannon handled the prosecution, ensuring these dealers faced justice. This case isn’t just a local win, however. It’s part of a larger, nationwide push known as Operation Take Back America. This initiative throws the full weight of the Department of Justice at dismantling transnational criminal organizations and stemming the tide of illegal drugs flooding into the country. It streamlines resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) – meaning more investigations, more arrests, and more dealers like Mills and Brown facing serious time.
