Eddie Bromwich, Assaulting Federal Officers, South Dakota 2025

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell dropped the hammer today, announcing that a Lower Brule, South Dakota native has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for assaulting federal officers.

Eddie Bromwich, 45, was met with Judge Eric C. Schulte’s stern sentence on June 30, 2025, following his conviction for Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer. The brash defendant is also staring down two years of supervised release after his prison term ends, and he’ll be shelling out $200 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Bromwich was first brought into the federal justice system’s crosshairs in March 2024 when he was indicted by a federal grand jury. His downfall came to light during a three-day jury trial in April 2025, where he was found guilty of his charges.

The incident that led to Bromwich’s plight began on February 6, 2024. That day, Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement officers pulled him over for speeding within the Lower Brule Sioux Indian Reservation. What ensued was a heated confrontation and physical struggle with the officers. One officer walked away with a broken finger.

This case wasn’t just about Bromwich; it also highlighted the dedication of the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services, Lower Brule Agency in their investigation efforts. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly Zachrison and Troy Morley prosecuted the case with vigor, ensuring justice was served.

Bromwich’s immediate remand into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service marked the beginning of his federal prison sentence. His conviction serves as a stark reminder that assaulting law enforcement officers is no laughing matter, and the consequences are severe.
