Mario Torres-Rodríguez, Child Exploitation, Puerto Rico 2021

San Juan, Puerto Rico – In a shocking case of child exploitation, a 63-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for transporting a 15-year-old minor to engage in illegal sexual activity. According to court documents, Mario Torres-Rodríguez paid the minor to engage in sex acts and produced child pornography from July 2017 to January 2018.

The defendant, who was familiar with the minor’s family, would pick her up from school or her parents’ business and transport her to secluded locations where he would engage in sexual activity with her. He even went as far as buying her an iPhone so they could communicate via internet instant messaging apps.

Torres-Rodríguez’s crimes were uncovered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Cristina Caraballo, Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Cannon, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ginette Milanes prosecuted the case.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges on August 30, 2021. He was subsequently sentenced to 168 months (14 years) in prison and 10 years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Aida Delgado-Colón.
