Martinsburg Man Admits to Cocaine Distribution
A Martinsburg man has pleaded guilty to distributing cocaine base in Berkeley County. Jarod Arthur Blakney, also known as “Papi,” was 28 years old at the time of the crime.
According to court documents, Blakney sold cocaine base in Berkeley County in June of 2017. He faces up to 20 years incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Blakney’s sentencing will be determined by U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble. The case was investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat cocaine distribution in the Eastern Panhandle.
Martinsburg residents are calling for tougher penalties on cocaine distributors, citing the devastating effects of cocaine on local communities. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of cocaine and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity.
