Meth Ring Leader Arrested in SD

A St. Francis woman has been charged with conspiracy to distribute meth, putting her on the path to potentially spending up to 40 years behind bars. Iverina Crow Eagle, 43, could also face a $5,000,000 fine, four years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, in addition to restitution.

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force investigated the case, finding that Crow Eagle was involved in a methamphetamine distribution ring starting no later than January 2018 on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges is prosecuting the case, which alleges that Crow Eagle conspired with others to knowingly and intentionally distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Crow Eagle appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on August 20, 2021, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. She was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, with a trial date yet to be set.

The maximum penalty for a conviction is severe, with up to 40 years in federal prison and/or a $5,000,000 fine hanging in the balance. Restitution and supervised release are also possible.

This case is a prime example of the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine distribution and the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to combat this issue.
