Jorge Alfredo Martinez Sanchez, Illegal Re-Entry, New York 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The grim saga of illegal immigration took a new turn as Jorge Alfredo Martinez Sanchez, a 50-year-old citizen and national of Mexico, pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry in a federal courtroom today.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the sentencing before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, who ordered time served for the defendant. Following his release, Martinez Sanchez was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The harrowing journey of Martinez Sanchez began in October 2017 when he was physically removed from the United States. Yet, on July 27, 2025, he reappeared in Erie County, N.Y., without any documents allowing legal presence in the U.S.

According to Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Smith, who handled the case, Martinez Sanchez faced a daunting fate as he was encountered by United States Border Patrol agents. His illegal status was confirmed when no legal documentation could be produced.

This conviction is a significant victory for Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eradicating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation has marshaled the full resources of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs).

U.S. Border Patrol’s investigation, led by Patrol Agent-in-Charge David Banks, resulted in this conviction, sending a clear message that illegal re-entry is unacceptable.
