Illegal Re-entry Lands Mexican Citizen Behind Bars
Alejandro Olvera-Servin, a 38-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to 163 days in jail, time served, for the crime of illegal re-entry into the United States.
According to court documents, Olvera-Servin was removed from the United States to Mexico on March 19, 2016, and again on April 27, 2018, after being arrested by immigration authorities in Texas for entering the country without inspection from Mexico.
However, Olvera-Servin’s troubles didn’t end there. On June 19, 2018, he was arrested by a Border Patrol Agent in Mooers, New York, after he illegally entered the United States from Canada by walking across the border approximately 10 miles to the west of the Champlain Port of Entry, thereby avoiding immigration and customs inspection.
Olvera-Servin admitted that he returned to the United States without permission following the 2016 and 2018 removals, and was charged with violating US immigration laws.
Following the sentencing, Olvera-Servin was remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, for removal proceedings.
The case was investigated by the Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward P. Grogan.
U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith commended the efforts of the Border Patrol and Grogan for their work on this case.
