MS-13 Gang Member Sentenced to 60 Months in Prison for Child Sex Trafficking
Victor Manuel Contreras, a 29-year-old MS-13 gang member from Manassas, Virginia, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for obstructing and interfering with the enforcement of federal child sex trafficking laws.
According to court documents, Contreras engaged in chats with a minor female on Facebook in July 2011, where she indicated a desire to run away from home. Contreras promised to help her, and once she ran away, he arranged for her to stay with other MS-13 gang members, who subsequently coerced her into prostitution.
When law enforcement officers interviewed Contreras during their search for the girl, he lied about his relationship with her and called other MS-13 gang members to warn them that law enforcement officers were looking for her.
The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema of the Eastern District of Virginia. Contreras will also serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Justice Department to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and prosecuted by Trial Attorney Alicia Yass of the Justice Department’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary K. Daly of the Eastern District of Virginia.
