Newport News Man Sentenced for Child Pornography

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A local man has been sentenced to 188 months in prison for receiving child pornography, according to the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Glenn Rodger McGuire, 41, of Newport News, was sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release by United States District Judge Henry C. Morgan, Jr. after McGuire pled guilty on February 6, 2013.

McGuire, a Cox Communications employee, set up his neighbors’ wireless router for a fee. However, an FBI investigation revealed that his computer was linked to a computer accessing and downloading child pornography.

Agents seized McGuire’s computers after obtaining his consent, and a forensic exam revealed over 6,000 images of child pornography.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa R. McKeel.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

McGuire’s sentence is a result of his crimes, which have caused harm to countless children. The community should be aware of the dangers of child pornography and the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities.
