Leonires Perez-Gonzales, Meth Trafficking, Nebraska 2024

A 31-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Leonires Perez-Gonzales, 31, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 248 months in prison for his guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking.

The sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. in federal court in Omaha on May 10, 2024. Perez-Gonzales will begin a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.

The investigation into Perez-Gonzales’s operation began on March 30, 2023, when law enforcement utilized a confidential source to purchase one pound of meth from a Mexico-based source of supply.

Over the course of several weeks, the confidential source coordinated with Perez-Gonzales and a Mexico-based source of supply to set up multiple controlled purchases of methamphetamine. The transactions were arranged through text messages, with Perez-Gonzales meeting the confidential source in Omaha to deliver the drugs.

On April 17, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Perez-Gonzales’s storage unit in Omaha, where they found 1,334 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and multiple firearms, including a Smith and Wesson rifle and 569 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition.

Perez-Gonzales’s co-defendant, Aleah Meyer, is scheduled to go to trial later this month. She has been accused of being involved in the methamphetamine trafficking operation and faces charges related to the possession of firearms and large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Perez-Gonzales’s guilty plea included a stipulation that he would forfeit any claim to the money and firearms seized in the case. The investigation was led by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The case against Perez-Gonzales highlights the ongoing threat posed by methamphetamine trafficking operations in Nebraska. The state has seen a significant increase in methamphetamine-related arrests and seizures in recent years.

The sentencing of Perez-Gonzales serves as a warning to those involved in methamphetamine trafficking: the consequences of getting caught are severe and long-lasting.
