Perkinston Man Pleads Guilty to Viewing Child Porn

Gulfport, Miss – In a disturbing case of online exploitation, William Joshua Woodward, 39, of Perkinston, has pleaded guilty to accessing child pornography with intent to view.

According to investigators, Woodward knowingly accessed the internet through his computer using a Peer-to-Peer file sharing program, which accessed visual depictions involving the use of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

The Gulf Coast Cyber Crimes Task Force initiated the investigation in July 2015 after detecting multiple downloads of child pornography via Peer-to-Peer file sharing networks. Further forensic examination of Woodward’s computer revealed hundreds of downloaded images of child pornography.

Woodward’s actions have sparked outrage in the community. ‘The thought of someone intentionally accessing such horrific content is appalling,’ said a local resident. ‘Our community demands justice for the victims of such heinous crimes.’

U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis announced the guilty plea, saying, ‘We take cases like this very seriously and will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who exploit our children to justice.’

Woodward is set to be sentenced on July 7, 2016, by Chief U. S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The case was investigated by agents with the Gulf Coast Cyber Crimes Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Wiggins Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones.
