Regginald Moody, 27, of Morgantown, West Virginia, has been caught in a web of crime after admitting to an unlawful firearms charge, United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld announced.
The crime took place in June 2020 in Monongalia County, where Moody, a person prohibited from having firearms, was found to be in possession of a firearm.
Moody pleaded guilty to one count of “Unlawful Possession of Firearm” in a court hearing presided by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi. This admission comes as a significant blow to the community, as the defendant now faces severe consequences for their actions.
Moody faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant, as per the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley on behalf of the government, with the help of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which investigated the crime.
Moody’s guilty plea has marked a significant milestone in this case, and the community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that justice is being served. However, the severity of the sentence is yet to be determined and will be based on the specific circumstances of the case.
