A Rockford jury delivered a guilty verdict against Danny L. Spyker, a former Federal Correctional Institute employee who used his power to sexually abuse two male inmates.
The abuse went down in March 2024, when Spyker, 42, was working as a cook supervisor at the Thomson prison.
U.S. District Judge Sunil R. Harjani will sentence Spyker on September 14, 2026. Each count of knowingly engaging in sexual acts with inmates can land him up to 15 years behind bars.
The conviction is a result of a three-day trial in U.S. District Court in Rockford, where prosecutors presented evidence of the abuse.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan S. Kim and Andrew M. Rosati represented the government in the case, along with Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Midwest Regional Office of the Office of Inspector General, Matt Loux.
