Rosebud Man Sentenced for Marijuana Conspiracy
A Rosebud man was sentenced to 28 months in prison for his role in a marijuana conspiracy that saw over 132 pounds of the substance smuggled into South Dakota.
Alfred Eagle Deer, Jr., 31, was sentenced on August 19, 2013, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange for his involvement in the conspiracy to distribute between 50 and 100 kilograms of marijuana.
Deer, also known as Alfred Eagle Deer, was one of several individuals involved in the conspiracy, which saw Abraham Romero-Perez obtain between 60 and 80 kilograms of marijuana between October 2008 and August 2012.
Deer assisted Gloria Barrera, Andrea Barrera, and others in distributing the marijuana, with some individuals being fronted quantities of marijuana ranging from one ounce and upwards.
Deer was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence.
Deer will report to the U.S. Marshals Service on August 22, 2013, to begin serving his sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller handling the case.
Deer’s conviction is the latest in a series of sentences handed down in connection with the marijuana conspiracy, with Gloria Barrera, Andrea Barrera, Romero-Perez, and Phillip Stands all previously sentenced.
