Burlington, VT – A New Hampshire native, Allen Locke, 64, is facing federal charges for allegedly traveling in interstate commerce without updating his registration as a sex offender.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont, Locke pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to timely register as a sex offender after moving to Vermont in 2013.
Locke, who was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in New Hampshire in 1984, is required to register as a sex offender with officials in any state where he resides or to which he moves.
However, Locke did not register as a sex offender with Vermont officials until late October 2013, three days after moving to the state.
Under federal law, sex offenders have three days to update their registration when moving to a new state.
Locke’s trial has not been scheduled, and if convicted, he faces up to ten years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.
Locke is represented by Federal Public Defender Michael Desautels, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Waples is prosecuting the case.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Office of Inspector General of the Veterans Administration.
