Albuquerque Man Charged with Aggravated Sexual Abuse

Stanton Hannaweeke, a 61-year-old resident of Zuni, New Mexico, has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, according to a federal complaint filed in the District of New Mexico.

The complaint alleges that Hannaweeke, an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Zuni, began touching the victim approximately 3 to 4 years prior to the report, which was made on August 20, 2023.

Hannaweeke appeared in federal court on the criminal complaint and will remain in custody pending a preliminary and detention hearing scheduled for September 13, 2023.

A complaint is only an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

According to the complaint, the victim, Jane Doe, reported to her mother that Hannaweeke had sexually assaulted her. Jane Doe’s siblings corroborated her report, stating that they either witnessed the incidents or were told about them by the victim.

If convicted, Hannaweeke faces up to lifetime imprisonment.

The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert James Booth II is prosecuting the case.

Hannaweeke will remain in custody until his hearing on September 13, 2023.
