A seasoned commander of the Iranian-backed terrorist group Kata’ib Hizballah, Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, was snared in a global sting, charged with six counts of terror-related offenses. Al-Saadi, a senior member of the group, orchestrated nearly 20 attacks and attempted attacks worldwide, including in the U.S. and NYC.
Al-Saadi’s reign of terror spanned years, with the defendant allegedly funneling resources to Kata’ib Hizballah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), both designated as foreign terrorist organizations.
The defendant’s attempted attacks in the U.S. included plots in New York City. He was arrested overseas, brought to the U.S., and presented before a Manhattan federal court, where he was ordered detained pending trial.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton vowed to bring Al-Saadi to justice, saying, ‘Al-Saadi attempted to disrupt American society through intimidation and violence. In a righteous and just contrast, his prosecution will highlight the best of our system.’
