Troylynn Brown, 35, Sentenced in New Orleans Staged Collision Scheme
A New Orleans woman has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for her role in a staged automobile collision scheme that landed her a $70,000 settlement.
Troylynn Brown, 35, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud in connection with the staged collision, which occurred on June 28, 2017. According to court documents, Brown conspired with others to intentionally collide her codefendant’s car with a tractor-trailer in the area of Tchoupitoulas Street and Calliope Street in New Orleans.
Brown lied in a civil deposition, falsely claiming that her codefendant was driving the car that collided with the tractor-trailer when, in fact, another individual was driving the car and intentionally hit the tractor-trailer.
Through her false statements, Brown secured a $70,000 monetary settlement from the owner and insurer of the tractor-trailer. She was sentenced to 24 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced Brown’s sentencing, praising the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Louisiana State Police, and the Metropolitan Crime Commission in bringing the case to justice.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brandon S. Long, Maria M. Carboni, and Edward Rivera, members of the Financial Crimes Unit, and Brian M. Klebba, Chief of the Financial Crimes Unit.
