Tulsa Felon Convicted of Gun Possession
A federal jury in Oklahoma has convicted Mario Terrell McBee, 39, of Tulsa, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to the Department of Justice, McBee was taken to the hospital on April 23, 2021, after a family friend found him unconscious and suspected he had overdosed on drugs. Emergency room nurses removed a loaded 9mm firearm from McBee’s waistband and administered several doses of Narcan to revive him.
McBee’s history of felonies, which include drug-related offenses, assault and battery on a police officer, and eluding a police officer, was confirmed by state court records. The FBI and ATF took possession of the firearm and launched an investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mandy M. Mackenzie and Thomas E. Buscemi prosecuted the case, which is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
McBee, a member of the Chickasaw Nation, will remain in custody until sentencing. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and FBI investigated the case.
The conviction is a significant blow to McIntosh County, where McBee’s actions have potentially put lives at risk. The case highlights the importance of the PSN program in addressing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
As part of the PSN program, the Department of Justice has launched a violent crime reduction strategy that focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
