Washington – A 29-year-old Maryland man has been charged with federal firearms violations after a midnight arrest in the U Street corridor of Washington, D.C. Tyzell Myrick, from Bowie, Maryland, is accused of unlawfully carrying a firearm and ammunition.
The charges come as part of the ‘Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful’ initiative, led by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, which aims to tackle gun violence in the nation’s capital. Myrick, who has a prior 2018 conviction for Hobbs Act robbery, faces serious federal penalties.
According to court documents, MPD officers noticed Myrick carrying a Glock 22 .40 caliber pistol during a routine patrol on Aug. 17, 2025. The firearm was loaded with one round in the chamber and an additional 20 rounds in the magazine.
The ATF Washington Field Office and the MPD are investigating the case, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney David B. Liss prosecuting. An indictment is merely an allegation; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Myrick’s arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by local and federal authorities to reduce violent crime and gun violence in Washington, D.C. The initiative prioritizes federal firearms violations and tougher penalties for offenders.
