Keenan Gibson, Drug Trafficking and Firearms Offenses, Delaware 2019

WILMINGTON, Del. — The grim streets of Wilmington witnessed a chilling conclusion this week as Keenan Gibson, 41, was sentenced to 111 months in federal prison following his conviction on drug trafficking and firearms offenses. Gibson’s sentence comes after a jury convicted him in June 2019.

According to court documents, the evidence against Gibson was overwhelming. During a search of a Wilmington apartment, police unearthed over 1,100 bags of heroin, alongside quantities of marijuana and methamphetamine. The apartment’s bathroom revealed Gibson hiding with his phone submerged in the bathtub and a firearm under the sink.

Trials produced evidence that included text messages on Gibson’s phone indicating drug sales. His trial was swift, culminating in a conviction within three hours.

“This defendant decided to sell heroin during an opioid crisis and use firearms in his illegal activities,” stated U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss. “He will now spend nearly a decade behind bars for his actions.”

Special Agent in Charge Timothy Jones of the ATF Baltimore Field Division emphasized the gravity of Gibson’s crime, saying, “Using guns to commit drug crimes puts communities at risk, and Gibson’s sentence sends a strong message that such behavior won’t be tolerated.”

Wilmington Police Chief Robert J. Tracy highlighted the collaborative efforts of local law enforcement and federal agencies. “This sentencing underscores our commitment to making our community safer,” he said.
