Wilson Man Convicted of Cocaine Possession
A federal jury has convicted a Wilson man of possessing over 500 grams of cocaine and 28 grams of cocaine base, with the intent to distribute.
Bondurant Akeem Ruffin, 34, was found guilty of the charges following a three-day jury trial in New Bern, North Carolina.
According to the evidence presented at trial, on November 24, 2016, the Wilson Police began investigating a vehicle break-in, using a canine to track the suspect, which led them to Ruffin, who was standing near a handicap ramp at a home.
Officers observed a bag underneath the handicap ramp near where Ruffin was standing, which contained 879 grams of powder cocaine and 74 grams of cocaine base, along with a digital scale, a spoon, and packaging materials.
At the time of his arrest, Ruffin possessed over $2,000 in U.S. currency.
The investigation was conducted by the Wilson Police. Assistant United States Attorneys Dena King and Special Assistant United States Attorney James Saunders represented the government in the case.
Ruffin’s conviction is the result of a collaborative effort between local and federal law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region. The case will now proceed to sentencing, where Ruffin faces significant time behind bars for his crimes.
