Altoona Spa Co-Owner Pleads Guilty to Prostitution Charge

A resident of Suwanee, GA, has pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of transportation for illegal sexual activity.

Yon Park, 60, of Suwanee, GA, pleaded guilty to one count of transportation for illegal sexual activity before United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson.

According to the court, on February 14, 2011, Park, while the owner of The SunSet Health Spa, located on Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA, caused an individual to be transported in interstate or foreign commerce, with the intent that such individual engage in prostitution, or in any sexual activity for which any person can be charged with a criminal offense.

Park’s guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney David J. Hickton.

The Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, and the Pennsylvania State Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Park.

Judge Gibson scheduled sentencing for February 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. The law provides for a total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
