Youngstown Man Sentenced to Life for Rape
A 59-year-old Youngstown man has been sentenced to life in prison for crossing state lines to rape an 11-year-old child, federal officials said.
Iraephraim Underwood, 59, was convicted of crossing a state line to engage in a sexual act with a person who had not attained the age of 12 years old and one count of crossing a state line to engage in a sexual act with a person who had not attained the age of 18 years old.
Underwood’s conviction came after a jury trial, where he was found guilty of violating federal sex laws. This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael A. Sullivan and Benedict Gullo following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Youngstown Police Department and the Boardman Police Department.
The FBI, Youngstown Police and Boardman Police worked tirelessly to gather evidence and bring Underwood to justice. Their efforts led to a conviction and a life sentence for the defendant.
