Gibran Guerrero, a member of the notorious Trinitarios gang, was part of a crew that terrorized the Bronx with a string of gunpoint robberies, including one that ended in murder. On December 15, 2022, Guerrero and his accomplices lured two victims to a location in the Bronx, where they were robbed and one of them, Johnny Gaston, was shot and killed. The other victim was shot but survived. The robberies were part of a larger pattern of violence and intimidation used by the Trinitarios to fund their gang and protect their territory.
Guerrero, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of using a firearm during and in relation to the robberies. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Lorna G. Schofield. The sentence is a significant blow to the Trinitarios gang, which has used intimidation, robbery, and deadly force to terrorize communities in the Bronx.
In addition to the December 2022 robbery, Guerrero and other Trinitarios members participated in gunpoint robberies on July 30, 2022, and September 26, 2022, in the Bronx. The robberies were brazen and violent, and they left a trail of victims in their wake. The Trinitarios gang has been a major problem in the Bronx, and law enforcement has been working to take down its members and dismantle its operations.
The sentence of 27 years in prison is a clear message that gang violence will not be tolerated in the Bronx or anywhere else in New York. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said that the Trinitarios have used intimidation, robbery, and deadly force to terrorize communities for too long, and that Guerrero is now where he belongs – in prison.
